Yeah I don't agree with it either. The 50g thing is just used by bodybuilders to justify there obsessive compulsive eating 10 meals a day.
 
I read a case study in which a group of older males had better results eating 2 large meals consisting of 90-120g of protein each rather than the other group who only ate 6 meals with 30g protein in each.

Obviously the tests weren't very tangible because every human is different but every one of the individuals who at 120g of protein each had much better results in terms of weight gain.

I have personally mixed between small meals and huge ones, im still getting stronger, still getting leaner..
 
He says only 50g of protein can be absorbed at one time in some of his articles?

Time is a funny thing. We have learned a lot about a lot over the last 40+ years. A broad sweeping statement such as "50g of protein can be absorbed at one time" provokes many questions and answers which are still being looked at. The older info is the more critical we should be.

What does modern data say about the matter ?

People have to remember that this information is 20+ years old so the science might not be correct
It's largely irrelevant however. I'm tempted to immortalize this forever on my home server
