Reg Park only performed 6 exercises for most of his career, what makes others think they can do better with more, just the basics son.

If I had an opportunity to pick who I could train with, that would be Dr Ken Liestner every time.
    Or Kim Wood.
The aforementioned people cut there teeth on these two.

That said, I think the difference between starting strength and markos' beginner program is minimal.
Of course in your 1st year if your routine is 10x10 preacher curls and 3x10 pec deck your not going to get far, i meant in your 1st year of heavy compound lifting the key seems to be all about effort and not so much about PTC beginner routine vs SS

Your showing your age Andy, everyone is going to Google, I doubt other than us 2 that anybody would have a clue who they are. I know Max does lol

When designing programs for people, I always draw inspiration from those who had next to nothing compared to us, and did twice as well.

Most look to add stuff, I look to strip it back.

I look at physiques of the 30's through till the 60's and think these guys had BB and DB, some had benches, some had squat racks, all worked for a living, none had protein supplements, how did they build physiques with such limitations that 80 years later we still admire and hope to emulate.

you guys raise some excellent points about not having what we do now. I have never honestly thought about it this way before. These guys didnt have the machines, the supplements, the " magic potions" we do these day and they were still worlds ahead of what many of us aspire to be today. It just goes to show how much this industry overcomplicates and confuses everything!!

It still makes me laugh whenever i pick up a muscle magazine and read the countless bull*&^*. Best advice i have ever been given KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!
    ALL 1RM - BENCH : 110KG SQUAT : 150KG DEADLIFT : 210KG ALL LIFTS RAW

Oh I think the internet is the biggest problem for most.

I use it to research, but I have a pretty accurate bullshit meter, because I learned to train BEFORE the internet came about, as did Andy. When we were given advice, we could SEE who was talking.

Guys starting up during the internet cant see whos giving advice, and most take the written word as Gospel.

One of the reasons I have never had a business card or placed an ad in a paper or anywhere is that I am of the belief that if somebody seriously want to get bigger and stronger, they would seek me.

That is the kind of client I prefer. I had 2 new people start this week and 2 start last week. I also had 3 girls come back who had trained elsewhere for quite a few months

I became involved in the whole internet thing by accident, I was looking for car parts on a forum when someone asked a BB question, and I responded in typical smart ass fashion. It kind of went out of control from that day on.

Back to the guys the OP mentioned, they all have one thing in common, basic heavy barbell training, whatever form of communication we have in another 100 years, this will still be king.

Can anyone on here say they have a mate who looks like Sandow did well over 110 years ago, before the guy who created Dianabol was even born?
