Here are a few sites I have been reading, these guys are quite thorough and will give you a good background on diet. One point to take home, and one I like to stress lately, is that everything is different for everyone. Just because I lose fat well on a moderate carb-high protein-moderate fat diet does not mean you will etc etc. Some people do well with low carbs some are fine with high carbs it is all individual. Read through all of their articles (I think Krieger's would be best to start off with) and you will understand a bit more about weight management and hormonal effects. Krieger's information on insulin is very educational. Add to the list if you have someone who can back up their information well.
