Arr, don't worry about the weight classes, celebrate Masters I reckon. Let's see how those gals are going when they emerge from their 30's, weighed down with kids, careers, marriages, etc. I'm happy to have a big fence between me and the young bucks. Can't compete with 'em but it's good fun...

What's that, about a 12% increase in your bench in < 1yr? Wish I could do that. Congrats.

Thanks mate, great to see you on here. Didn't realize we were the same age. It's truly about dancing around injury, isn't it.

    Front Squats, which grip?

I use crossed arms thru warmups and into the lightest work set, 'cos I find it the more comfortable of the two grips. But the bar gets away from me if I try that above a certain weight. I'm not flexible enough to lift the elbows high enough to lock it in. So I switch to the straight palms up...

How far do you travel and how often do you compete?

Nearest meet is ~250km. 2 comps so far this year.

    Mathematical Optimisation and Strength Training

You'll get a lot of "just lift stuff" responses but it's an interesting idea. It's a given that the muscle-exercise matrix would only be valid for a particular individual. For example, my ratio of quad-to-hamstring utilisation during the squat is almost certainly going to be different to yours...

Impending quad injury felt innocuous, like a cork

It's a 3-lift comp on Oct 13th at the Muscle Pit in Perth, I think it's an annual thing. It will be fun alright.

What are some good bathroom scales? Mines inconsistent and shit lol.

After a bit of trialling, I got a Tanita BC-541. It calibrates itself (it seems) before it tells you to hop on. Highly reproducible measurements; varies by no more than 0.1kg from one measurement to the next. I tried 4-5 others in the shop at the the time. They all varied by 2-3kg from...

Impending quad injury felt innocuous, like a cork

Man I could have cried. Three weeks out from the Wild West Shootout comp here in Perth, I've been training for this one for a few months now. Pain really wasn't much, the tearing sensation was a worry though. Doesn't really hurt just walking around but I wouldn't want to try a body weight...
