    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

Cheers Maxy for a really helpful post! There are so many programs out there it's overwhelming for a beginner, so glad I found Starting Strength, it's perfect for my needs right now (i'm a nursing student so the medical terminology suits me too). Now if I can get a half-decent rack and bench i'll...

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

Cheers for responding to questions from a few pages back. I have seen several people (including here on AusBB) recommend rubber flooring for under a rack. At least one recommendation to use horse trailer mat. Starting Strength by Rippetoe i think recommends both plywood then rubber mat on top...

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

I almost wish space was an issue for me so my mind was made up for me haha Gazer99 not sure how close you are to a purchase but if you want to post any details of what you go for/who with/how much etc i'd appreciate it. I will do the same for any other newbie's arriving at this thread. Cheers.

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

Cheers, seems to be the consensus, my only hesitation is the standard vs the commercial really (and then navigating the bewildering add-ons and upgrade options)...

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

Thanks for the tip but I'm in Lismore, northern NSW, guessing the nearest PTC is Brisbane. Not sure if anywhere local would have the MM racks, will look around I guess.

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

As a beginner I'm looking at the package deals as I kind of need everything. The GymDirect packages offer an upgrade from a 700lb bar to a '1500lbs rated brass bushing heavy duty olympic bar' for $50. Worth it?

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

I think I am well and truly sold on the power rack over the squat rack, even though as pointed out the squat rack will serve my purposes as a beginner. Would rather buy a piece of equipment now that will fill my needs for the future also. Hadn't looked closely at the benches, now I see that...

    Newbie intro/questions on squat/power racks

Thanks for those thoughts guys, have been reading through the numerous power rack threads here and looking very seriously at getting one now. A couple more newbie questions in the meantime: Space is no issue for me in my double garage (except height may be a little tight, looking at potentially...

Hi folks, First post here on the forums. I'm a 30 yr old guy, been training martial arts for years and supplemented training at home with a bit of kettlebells, body weight stuff, and in the past year some basic barbell workouts with a friend's barbell and bench. Have decided to take the plunge...
