    Sourcing replacement safety bars

I took some crappy phone photos of the set-up because I can't find my camera atm: Force USA Home w/ Straps - Imgur I also took some measurements if it helps; the barbell is 26 centimeters off the floor in the middle of the bar, and sits 9cm above the force usa bench which I believe you own...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

I'll try grab one tomorrow for you Kaz. I think I saw your set up in one of the home-gym threads, reasonably certain you have the same rack I do (Force USA Home?). Those safeties are horrible hollow things :(.

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

Got my straps and wanted to report back. 4x 1m worked out really, really well, they hang maybe 5 cm above my chest when benching (will depend on your bench / cage though). Only concern we had was that when dropping the barbell in the event of a failed squat, it may swing and hit the squatter in...

Help a beginner purchase some kit!

That's really good, I don't love 15 kg plates but 200kg is pretty great. I paid around that amount for a similar package, except with olympic dumbell handles and a Force USA bench, but with the shittier rack (home version). Probably would've considered this package if it was at that price point...

Just in case it helps your selection iPOUND, this is the issue with the Force USA power rack as Graeme from littleblokefitness explained in the thread for that rack; So basically I gather the wideness issue only applies to the first and second edition, third should be fine.

Help a beginner purchase some kit!

Looks fine but at that price point I think most people are looking at a rack like this: Force USA - Power Rack with Band Attachments Very similar but I believe the above is slightly more heavy duty? Actually on Ebay it's $660 but I don't know if there's a distributor near you, in which case...

Help a beginner purchase some kit!

Just giving you my thoughts after setting up my own home gym about a month ago; I bought 150kgs of plates and I'm finding that will be enough for at least 6 months. Edit: Also, I'm not sure if you're only set on brand-new plates, but waiting could give you time to keep an eye on gumtree for...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

At heavy weights that seems like leaving a bit too much to chance, can you always guarantee that you can lift one side up when you've totally failed? In any case, if I was one of the (almost statistically irrelevant) few to die benching despite possessing a rack, I'd most certainly be up for a...

Bumper plates received - should I return? Pics of damage.

Out of interest, I'm not sure this would void the implied warranty that comes with every purchase of goods under Australian consumer laws. Any clause attempting to void implied warranties is void, but I'm not totally sure whether this applies in the scenario the company uses your signature as...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

Good points guys. I figure I could loop the straps around the top crossbeams of my squat rack and potentially use band pegs to keep it from moving, not that I'd imagine the sling will change position at the top too much when the slings have enough weight put on them. If I'm interpreting...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

Okay, I purchased 4x 2 ton 1 metre slings off ebay. Totaled $56. Should be able to loop them around enough times to get accurate length of the straps, using the method seen here: Will report back on how it goes when I get them, which could take awhile because they're in hong kong and it's...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

This sling idea is genius. Now I'm left wondering why anyone bothers installing metal safeties at all? Thanks for pointing these out dude. Edit: Only concern I have is whether these are long enough to accommodate bench presses. Also these things seem to be far away cheaper on e-bay. I think...

They actually look really handy, but do you need to use the J-hooks that come with your power rack to attach the sling? Presumably these work for the bench press as well if you put the slings high enough up the rack that they provide full ROM?

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

Interestingly the first sheetmetal place I contacted replied to me saying "Sorry we only do sheetmetal work." Yet on the other hand, I know a local tennis club uses a sheetmetal place for it's tennis court poles (metal poles that hold the net). Guess it's just hit and miss with who has the...

    Sourcing replacement safety bars

Ah good call on the mild steel. Had no idea the difference (till I googled after seeing your suggestion). Turns out typing 'sheetmetal' into google spews out a ton of results for places nearby, where as 'metal fabrication' and other search terms came up with all of two locations. Thanks for the...
