    Squats, are they necessary?

    I don't think it makes a big different if you didn't do squats but worked out hard in other areas. If you are able to squat then maybe do it once in a while just to change things up.

    Buying a quality barbell

    There are a few quality equipment sellers that stock decent barbells. I've bought from Xpeed before. Xpeed Barbell (P) Performance Series They have a website. You're looking at a weight limit of up to 450kg's with some of these.
