How you know if you are getting enough vitamins

Hi all,

I'm curious how fo you know if you are eating enough vitamins and minerals to support your body. As I have heard that vitamins are a waste of money and food its a lot better for you.

So how you know you are getting the right amount?

If you feel weak and tired and get sick a lot, you probably don't have enough.

If you feel strong and awake and rarely get sick, you probably have plenty.

I agree that this says if your body has enough or not vitamins. But how can you tell this way if your getting them from your diet or from supplements? As in multivitamin caps?

I generally take Centrum daily but I have no way to tell if it does anything. Just a comfort thought that it does but no way to prove it. I think he is wondering if there is a way to tell.

Just stop taking the pills for a week or two and see how you feel.

Basically, if you have 2-3 pieces of fruit, and 3-5 different coloured vegies (eg spinach, yellow squash, onion, mushrooms, red capsicum), about half a cup each, you ought to be covered for your vitamins and minerals.

If you want it more scientific, write a food diary for a week then go see a nutritionist.

Yep. If you feel full of energy and awake your vitamins are good.

Take your 3PM crash an office worker has. Loaded up on B, Iron, C and the others?

Said crash does not happen. No need for a 3PM coffee.

Very true. I have experienced this change since I started taking multivitamins. But sleep is very IMO. No amount of vitamins can make up lack of sleep.

Confused.. what you mean 3pm crash? I don't drink coffee anyway. I get really tried around 8pm I find it really hard to stay up. Maybe because I'm up at 3am.

I have started taking fish oil, this pill call acetyl-l-carnitine which has really help with energy and I'm also taking vitamin B.
