Reps and weight

currently i I have been doing 3x8 of the same weight, but a few people that I know/see doing , will do something like 10 reps, then they will increase the weight and do another 8 reps, followed by more increase in weight and do 6 reps

Is there any advantage to increasing the weight for each set of the same exercise?

what your describing is known as pyramiding. I am not a big fan of it personally, but a lot of people use it.

So it's just personal preference,by not pyramiding I'm not missing out on anything ?

you're probably doing better by not pyramiding. so don't threat your not missing out on much

One advantage to pyramiding is you are building up to a max weight. If you are not pyramiding, make sure warm up is adequate. I don't personally believe one way is better than the other as both have pros & cons.

thanks guys for clearing this up, i think i will stick with my current routine and not pyrmad as i seem to making good gains from it

I think more experienced trainers probably pyramid the weight up for the reasons Dan outlined. I know i personally need to work my way up to my max lifts.. More so now i'm older ;o)

However, stick with what is working for you right now. I wouldn't rule out trying other technics later on though.
