Tendonitis affecting forearms

Well Ive done a really dumb thing, I havent used my rest days a few weeks ago and worked out every night. really big mistake. I am now getting the same feeling as shin splints in my forearms. I can complete sets of curls with a single curl or "z" Bar but its when I put it down I get the pain and the next day.

What would be the best way to treat this? Also what would be a good effective workout for my Biceps that would not hinder the rehab on my forearms?

Cheers!:)

Rest the elbow and apply R.I.C.E.treatment (Rest , Ice , Compression , Elevation) for a few days, have a compression bandage

And there is always deep heat/goanna oil

Cheers guys! what grip should i be using on a Curl Bar, and where should I be griping it?

Try Pain Away spray or cream. New aussie product that many of the NRL teams are on. It's mainly herbal with a base of Emu Oil for transport. Wa on Today Tonight show a couple weeks back. I got some and it works almost immediately for strains. Apparently reduces inflamation.

If it gets serious and won't go away, a cortisone shot or 3 should do the job.

I had a real bad tendon on the top side of where my thumb joins my wrist.
Hurt like I was being stabbed with a knife everytime I put it in a stretch position. Had one cortisone shot, then it came back after about 6 months, came back in 2 places. Then had 2 more shots at the same time and have been trouble free for a couple of years now.

I have just found that I place the main part of the weight in a certain part of my hand, rather than spreading it evenly across, leading to a lot of weight being placed on certain parts of my forearm. I find that I take most of the weight in my little fingers. Don't know how I manage it, but I do (I blame my midget hands). Figure 8 straps seem to help as well.

And there is always deep heat/goanna oil

Many of these products are now mineral oil based and don`t penetrate. The heat you feel is usually a reaction of the product with the skin.
Someone mentioned a herbal/emu oil based product. These will penetrate into the muscle/tendon etc. and are way more effective.
I have a few supporters of a brand called Phiten and I don`t know if they are available in Australia. They have tiny titanium beads printed on to the inside of them.Whether there is any scientific basis for this I don`t know or even if it is only psychological, but they work wonders for me.They also have strapping tapes etc.
Physio and massage etc. are always at the top of my list along with rest.

hey all,,
i have had a problem much like this started about a year ago, is a sharp pain mostly when letting go of the bar after a set.
got told it was the bones twisting in my forearms when using heavy weight on an ezy bar. started just using heavy dunbells and now slowly starting to use barbells but by not using the ezy bar it has helped.

tho i duno for a fact but try and see if it helps cheers,,:)

I had the same problem once. I have been told by medical proffesionals that the shin splint feelings are usually a sign of poor stretching and flexability. There is really nothing you can do apart from rest when you have them but to help avoid them in the future do some more stretches. Not sure what stretches would help the forearms lol but thats what a medical proffesional told me once i.e a doctor that was a muscle/ what ever specialist not sure of the name.

Well i did a satisfying set of hammer curls instead last night (never done them before) Ive given the forearms a week long rest. But I experienced not one bit of twitching or pain after each rep. I didnt attempt any curls on the Z bar incase i flammed them but i feel i got good work out in my biceps for once.

Definately. Once the pain goes away completely i'm going to start them again but with a straight bar and see how it goes.

ive had tendinitis in both my inner elbows past almost 4 years. Long Term rest is good especially if you can get cortisone shots from your doc, but if you dont want to stop lifting for that long there is ways of working around it like any injury, just be prepared for the long term concicuences. All the big lifters suffer these same injuries, some of these guys we idolise in the mags can take up to 4 hours to warm up sore and swollen joints etc before the do all that awesome stuff we see on you tube.
