A 22-year-old Airlie Beach man was charged with riding a bicycle under the influence after he collided head-on with a triathlete at Airlie Beach yesterday morning.
About 8.30am, the man was allegedly riding down the wrong side of the road when he collided with a 20-year-old South Australian man competing in the Airlie Beach Triathlon.
Both men were taken to Proserpine Hospital. The South Australian man was later airlifted to Townsville Hospital with life-threatening injuries and the Airlie Beach man was treated for a broken collar bone.
Under Queensland's drink driving laws, the penalties for drink-riding are the same as drink-driving, with offenders running the risk of having their driver's licence disqualified or being jailed for repeat offences.
The Airlie Beach man will appear in Prosperpine Magistrates Court on October 27.
