[Cycling] How to ride up hills?

When I come up to a hill sometimes well more like most times I drop it into granny gear and pedal away.
What I'm doing is wrong isn't it?

Help me climb

Short, sharp climbs: Hold plenty of momentum going in, if possible, select gear 3 or 4, get out of the saddle and keep the momentum up. once you lose momentum you lose traction

Longer climbs: Again try and get as much momentum going int othe climb, stay seated and select gear 2 or 1

Get nice and balanced in the centre of the bike, you don't want your front wheel lifting but you need to keep weight on the rear to maintain traction.
