What's the rule about rain riding. It has been raining for the past couple of days and i'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms!

if i ride in the rain do i run the risk of rusting my bike?. Is rain riding a big taboo in the cycling world?

You can't rust aluminum. Just take care of your drive train/suspension (clean & lube). There is no rules about riding in the rain. The rule of mountain biking is that there are no rules.

just remember to get off the dirt trails when they are wet , you don't want to go damaging them for everyone else in future use , unless of course the trails are your private property

I've been wondering this same thing for when i get caught out in the rain, if i do i wanna know what to lube and clean to prevent rusting my bike.

I remember seeing bikes as a kid that were rusted after being caught out in the rain

As said about aluminum doesn't rust. Only steel and ferrous materials (containing iron) rusts.

Just make sure to lube the drivetrain and degrease it every month or 2 and you should be fine. Also grease the seatpost every 3 months ,grease the stanchions on your suspension fork whenever you remember with a light coat. and don't forget to overhaul your headset and hubs every year or when you feel a difference or take it to the local bike shopt.

Replace your cables when you notice a drop in braking/shifting power
