as the title of the post says , what is chainstay?

The chainstay is the bottom tube(s) that connect the bottom bracket (section that the crank is in) to the rear dropouts (where the back wheel attaches). It is called the chainstay because the top of the chain goes over the top of the tube, and the bottom of the chain is below the tube

and just so you know the seat stay are the tubes that extend form the seat tube, to the rear drop outs
