He pretended to be shaking too. Was funny, the guy is a beast. He also did it because nobody else was in the that division so he won it and still got prizes too. Was amusing

I didn't realise there was the images so for the women's results please see attached file. I spoke with Yolandie Weir and she was incredibly down to earth and so friendly. She broke some AUS records and so did a few other girls and guys.

Seriously, having to do token lifts sucks. It demeans the sport and takes up everyone's time. Surely the rules can be changed to allow a discretion for top lifters to qualify without having to do a token comp?

No, they should be made to compete and not allowed to do tokens.

Nothing annoys me more.

or that. I agree. I also think you shouldn't be able to set individual lift records if you do a token other lift (eg squat 60kg to save yourself for deadlift).

Completely agree. At WA States we had a couple of people do 60kg squats and deadlifts so that they could set bench records.

So if someone has an injured pec/tri they can't set bench/deadlift records because they have to take a token lift?

Lifts should be a genuine attempt. It should be obvious what a genuine attempt is, having regard to the lifter's past lifts and physical condition.

That becomes difficult to monitor in itself, i think token lifts should be allowed, because in the end it's the total that matters. All well and good to bench 250kg then total 500, the guy who totals 502.5kg with a 100kg bench is still the stronger competitor.

I don't agree.

I worked hard for my 302.5kg deadlift, even hitting a PR in the squat.

If someone went 60/60/305 I'd call them out.

It's weak. Very weak.

You can't enforce a rule, but I wish I could work out how.

If there were more single lift events people would use them for getting records?

FWIW, the IPF doesn't have a genuine attempt rule for squat and deadlift records, but they do for (a) bench press WRs; and (b) individual lift medals at international events.

You can't set a bench press WR in a 3 lift comp, or eg get a gold medal for deadlift, unless you make a "bona fide attempt" in each discipline.

A bona fide attempt is one of those things that's hard to define but you know it when you see it.

I can remember Luke Vella taking token lifts at CAPO Nats 2011 to set a deadlift world record . . .

He bombed

Won't say he deserved to bomb, but in hindsight I can't say I'm all that sympathetic

I must admit I wasn't very sympathetic either - I thought that was poetic justice actually.
