Low testosterone

Hi all,

Went to the doctor today, after receieving my bloodtest. Everything is normal other then my testosterone. They score between 8-30mg/l I think it was( not sure on the units of measurement they do )

But I got 8. Which I think is terrible considering I'm only 20. He wants me to wait 5-6 weeks and re do the test but earlier. Even though I went at 10am before.

Should I go to a different doctor with my results, as this low test will hinder my performance in the gym and bedroom until I can get some meds.

Reference ranges are merely a guide. If you had symptoms that were strongly suggestive of a testosterone deficiency and other possible causes of those symptoms were excluded/ unlikely, I would have no hesitation in supplementing your testosterone. I wouldn't jump into injectable forms though.

i find it concerning that the reference range is the same whether you're 18 or 80 so if you have a crappy GP they won't act when maybe they should. at the same time if you're not showing symptoms of low test then why would you want to do anything?

what were you getting bloods done for, if you don't mind me asking?

The blood test was for low test, zero sex drive. Haven't lost any strength but haven't seemed to get stronger over the last 6months.

I'll have to book in at a different doctor and ask.his opinion.

what's your life like in general? stressed much?
what's your diet like? using any supps? any recreational drugs?

i saw the doc for pretty much the same thing a few months back. my testosterone came back at the bottom of the range but not low enough for the dr to want to do anything about it - he was more concerned with my cholesterol and convincing me i needed to stop eating keto.

my issues were solved by backing off my work hours, coming off my cut and eating more (still super low carb, just not in deficit), getting more exercise and supping more vitamins. i have a strong suspicion that the combination of low winter sunlight and lots of overtime left me pretty depleted of vitamin d, but that's really just guessing and i'm sure it was a combination of many factors.

much happier now. mood is up, energy is back, sex drive is way better but since i've gone back to long hours and the missus is pregnant i'm not getting too many opportunities to take advantage of it.

good luck getting to the bottom of it. hormones suck when they're working against you. don't be afraid to seek an endo if you're not satisfied with what your doctor is doing for you.

Thanks for the input march,

I don't stress about anything, I'm easy as they come. My job is a stress free worry free job. I am taking multi viatimins, I am on a cut but I've slightly upped my cardio and got rid of the two minute noddles I had at smoko.

And what do you mean an endo ?

Endo-endochrinologist.
Specialist who deals with this stuff. Just ask for a refferal. ;)
I got tested at 18 the other day and still got offered the referral lol. Didnt need it though obvioisly. If you are concerned, go see an endo.
