Laurie Butler has provided a summary of equipment then.

"The super suits we used were mainly Marathon brand, single ply and the manufacturer had a double ply in the crutch where they were susceptible to ripping but the IPF officials made us cut out the inner crutch material so they were single ply throughout and as a result with a massive weight the crutch would blow out.

In this comp, Ray Rigby, attempting 390kg, sustained such bad injuries that he never lifted again. His suit blew.

"Knee wraps were better than crepe bandage but nowhere near the thickness and support like the wraps of today".

Laurie estimates that the wraps then gave him "an extra 25kg and the suit an extra 30kg back in 1985".

Glen's results cant be right as that would give him a 662.5kg total not 762.5kg and yet he came first I beleive - could you please double check that

sorry, put wrong squat down. These things happen when you puting down a lot of data, but thanks for letting me know.

How strong was he? 762.5 as a 75kg.

Glen was a phenomenal lifter - not sure if he is still involved in powerlifting but certainly inspired a lot of people
