Any Recruitment Consultants on here?

Recruiters are the lowest form of life on earth they will tell you absolutely anything to get you to take a job so they can get the commission. If you ever accept a job through a recruiter make sure everything they tell you is in the contract.

As for what sort of job it is, you would think it would be like any other commission based job pays well if you can make the numbers. Might as well sell houses at least the commissions are bigger.

I agree with Brick......I've lost count of the number of pisspoor experiences I've had with recruiters. I've dealt with many who lie, who are very fake, very one-sided in only wanting info from you and not revealing info to you.

When I've been a candidate for a job I've been treated poorly several times. When I've been the manager recruiting someone, they're suddenly all lovey dovey.

One rung above lawyers. The good ones are great. The rest are oxygen thieves.

I've been offered the role from a company that specialises in engineering and mining, I'm unsure what to do. Currently in part time telesales.

strong hate for recruitment consultants in this thread :D

Shane, telesales sucks balls. lol

What do you feel you'd like to do?

And perhaps, I would suggest, and please take this with a grain of salt, I was only Director of Client Service for a Global Recruitment firm in Europe for 8 years (;)) speak with the firm that has offered you the position?

Ask for a run down of the role description/expectations/duties/travel required (if any) wage structure and commission structure etc etc

Then make an informed decision for yourself.

Good luck!
:)

They lie to the people they recruit why would they have any inclination to tell you the truth when offering you a job in their own organisation.

lol

Maybe they do.

I handed them my resume to find me a job in London and they poached me for themselves.

Best 8 years of my working life, hands down. Great company, great people, great money, great travel....

Not every recruitment consultant is a liar. And not every company is shit house. They all have sliding commission scales, some have bigger base salaries than others and obviously less of an agenda in that case...

It's a decision shane will have to make for himself with the details of the job role and what it encompasses.

Can't see how telesales would be much better?

Given the state of the job market I think it would be easier to sell time share over the phone then jobs to people so skilled they only way they move is by direct poach from a major mining or enginewrong firm

Yeah you could be right Brick, the job market is definitely slow.

But not for mining or engineering ;) Those sectors are booming right now.
You're a happy chappy or lass if you're in mining or engineering right now, they seem to be the only sectors having actual ongoing growth while every other sector suffers huge blows.

It'll be interesting to watch over the coming months.

Telesales, IMO is one of the worst jobs in the entire world.
I'd rather clean toilets for a living, than do that job. lol

Your right about the boom part but tell me this if i am a engineer or geologist why am i gonna answer a recruiters ad when it is next to a direct hire ad for santos or xstrata. You wont the recruiters are bottom dwellers trying to pick up the scraps.

I stand by what i said earlier if your gonna be a salesman might as well something with a decent sized commission. Like property or heavy machinery.

lol

True enough.

Why would engineers answer recruiters ads? Because jobs are competitive & people want top dollar for their skills, especially in a boom, they know they'll get it? lol

Real estate has bottomed out.

Cars? Just no.

lol

I agree with you somewhat Brick, I'd be keen to hear what they tell the OP & what he decides to do?

I wouldn't mind selling houses myself....I don't do commission work though, I'm too old for the stress of that lol

So what would be a good base wage to start off at as a trainee recruiter?

Telesales all depends on what your selling and the working conditions. Luckily I get a decent hourly rate plus sometimes commission.

I have been informed of all these details.

I'm the type that needs to try something firstly to find out whether I'd like it. This job offers sponsorship too so therefore makes it all that bit more attractive for me having only arrived in the country 3 months ago on a working holiday visa.

Interesting!

Well I have no idea about base wages currently on offer for recruiters, google it & have a look at tge average in Australia to see how your offer compares?

Where abouts are you from?

Do you want to stay in Australia?

Unfortunately careers aren't typically 'try before you buy' deals. If you've been made an offer & it appeals, you're comfortable with whats required & it's financially good, you grab it by the balls & give it a go?

Let us know your decision after wage comparisons? I'd be keen to hear the base/commission ratio too.

Good luck shane! :)

I'm from Ireland.

Yes I'd love to stay here.

$55k plus commission, I can't remember what way the commission structure works. What the average wage in this country?

Would engineering and mining be one of the better industries to be in with regard to recruitment?

Bear in mind, I'm 25, masters degree educated but little working experience bar part time work that paid my rent and university fees.

This is not a bad base shane! Still would be interested in the commission structure because this will give you your earning potential, beyond base salary. I guess though, for anyone on commission, you have to appreciate & be comfortable with the fact that your base, at least for a little while, may be all you earn?

I think you'll find the average wage in Australia is around the $40,000-$50,000 mark? Google it too, it should be easy enough to find :)

Yes, if you're going to be a recruitor, engineering & mining is probably the best industry to be in right now! lol The job market is terrible for everyone else, but engineering & mining are going through a boom :)

Brick was right, many large mining companies advertise themselves, for staff. But they also use recruitment agents to ensure the vetting process for the skills they want & need is done for them.

So it could be a very lucrative career opportunity for you? But it will depend on the commission structure & your ability to build solid relationships & perform. If the company also sponsor you to allow you to legally stay in Oz, well thats an even bigger win?

Is the base offered, better than what you're currently earning shane?
